It lays the foundations of national electrotechnical standardisation and is the first organised form of technical norm-setting in Romania.<\/p><p class=\"note\">In 1928, Romania becomes a member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-1928\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">1928<\/span><span>Romanian Industry Norms Commission<\/span><\/h3><p>The first body devoted to Romanian industrial norms is set up, extending standardisation beyond the electrotechnical field.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-1937\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">1937\u20131938<\/span><span>Romanian engineers adopt standards of national scope<\/span><\/h3><p>Within the General Association of Engineers of Romania (AGIR), standards of national scope are adopted a decade before the Standardisation Commission is created.<\/p><p class=\"note\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agir.ro\/buletine\/3051.pdf\">AGIR Bulletin<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"epoch\" style=\"--era:#146477;--bar:#3bace1\"><h2 id=\"standardizarea-de-stat\" tabindex=\"-1\">State standardisation<\/h2><p class=\"dek\">After 1948, standardisation is organised centrally, the first state standards appear and Romania enters the international standardisation scene.<\/p>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-1948\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">1948<\/span><span>Standardisation Commission<\/span><\/h3><p>The Standardisation Commission is established under the Council of Ministers of the Romanian People&#8217;s Republic, as the first central body to coordinate the field.<\/p><p class=\"note\">Decree No. 334 of 19 November 1948. STAS 2, on the scales of technical drawings, enters into force the same day.<\/p><p>The first \u201cStandardisation Bulletin\u201d also appears in 1949. From the same year, Romania is also represented as a member of ETSI, the European telecommunications standards organisation.<\/p><p class=\"note\">Decision No. 733 of 14 October 1991.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-1992\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">1992<\/span><span>From STAS to SR<\/span><\/h3><p>Ordinance No. 19 of 1992 provides for the move from state standards (STAS) to Romanian standards (SR). State standards already in force remain valid until they are revised and converted into Romanian standards.<\/p><p class=\"note\"><a href=\"https:\/\/legislatie.just.ro\/public\/DetaliiDocument\/2166\">Ordinance No. 19\/1992, Article 32<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-1998\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">1998<\/span><span>The Romanian Standards Association is founded<\/span><\/h3><p>National standardisation moves to the European associative model: ASRO is created as a private-law body of public interest.<\/p><p class=\"note\">Government Ordinance No. 39 of 30 January 1998; recognised as the national standardisation body by Government Decision No. 985\/2004.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2006\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2006<\/span><span>ASRO becomes a full member of CEN and CENELEC<\/span><\/h3><p>Through ASRO, Romania takes part, with voting rights, in developing European standards within CEN and CENELEC.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2015\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2015<\/span><span>Adoption of Law No. 163\/2015<\/span><\/h3><p>The law on national standardisation sets the current legal framework for organising standardisation, for Romania&#8217;s participation in European and international standardisation, and for applying Regulation (EU) No 1025\/2012.<\/p><p class=\"note\"><a href=\"https:\/\/legislatie.just.ro\/Public\/DetaliiDocument\/169228\">Law No. 163 of 24 June 2015.<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2018\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2018<\/span><span>90 years of national standardisation, 20 years of European standardisation<\/span><\/h3><p>ASRO marks nine decades of Romanian standardisation and two decades of work in the European standardisation system.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2019\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2019<\/span><span>CEN-CENELEC General Assembly in Bucharest<\/span><\/h3><p>ASRO hosts the CEN-CENELEC General Assembly in Bucharest, the most important European standardisation event ever held in Romania.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2020\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2020<\/span><span>New premises, owned by ASRO<\/span><\/h3><p>ASRO moves into new premises owned by the association \u2014 a solid base for its standardisation work in the years ahead.<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"milestone\"><h3 id=\"astl-2024\" tabindex=\"-1\"><span class=\"year\">2024<\/span><span>Artificial intelligence enters the standardisation programme<\/span><\/h3><p>Through technical committee ASRO\/CT 401, Romanian experts take part in standardising artificial intelligence. In August, ASRO announces in the Standardisation Bulletin the adoption of SR ISO\/IEC 42001:2024, the standard for artificial intelligence management systems.<\/p><p class=\"note\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.asro.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/BS-08-2024.pdf\">Standardisation Bulletin, August 2024<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"closing\"><h2>Romanian standardisation today<\/h2><p>Nine decades of national standardisation have built the quality infrastructure of the Romanian economy. Today, ASRO is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asro.ro\/en\/structure\/\">national standardisation body<\/a>, a full member of the European organisations CEN, CENELEC and ETSI and a member of the international organisations ISO and IEC.
