In 1948 the Standardization Commission was born as the first national standardization body.

After a series of reorganizations of the National Standardization Body, in 1970 IRS – Romanian Institute for Standardization which functioned until 1998.

By the 39/1998 Ordinance the basis of national volunteer standardization are in place.

The 39/1998 Ordinance was approved and modified by the 355 Law from 6th of June 2002 and published in Romania’s Official monitor no. 447 from 26th of June 2002.

Today ASRO is a full rights member to:

International Standardization Organisations
IEC - International Electrotechnical Commission
ISO - International Organization for Standardization

and observer member to:
European Standardization Organisation
